Despite the single digit attendance, the club entertains a multi-ethnic, multi-club,
ASA-endorsed State Championship.
The 9th annual Connecticut State Championship was once again an affair between previous winners Massimo Conturso & Miguel Marques. And once again, Massimo Cutuli declared forfeit just a few hours from the event. However, the multiethnic tournament was not so routine as the ASA and the SCC welcomed old and new friends in the Wallingford clubhouse. Read more

The
American Subbuteo Association Open held by the Southern California
Subbuteo Club on Saturday August 7, 2010, was the highest scoring
tournament in the history of the club. The seven players managed to score
56 goals in 21 games, an average of 2.67 goals per game.
Wayne Smith's streak of Open wins continued as he finished in first place
again, having won all six of his games.
In an exciting finish
Simon Hutchinson claimed second place on goal difference from
Steve
Tucker, who had impressed everyone by his play as he had not flicked for six
months.
David Jensen's victory over
Kevin
Nieman allowed him to finish in fourth place, with Kevin finishing in fifth.
Dominic Hutchinson resolute defending and goalkeeping may not have won him
any game, but it did allow him to tie three games and finish in sixth place.
John
Carroll's defense was not so robust and he finished in seventh, with two
ties.

Zach Walker chalked up his 4th Open title in 5 years by defeating a
rapidly improving Michael Tillman 2-1 in Alexandria,Virginia, on June
5th. Walker would need OT to secure the title as Tillman pushed him hard
with a composed and skillful performance that suggests he will return
as a serious contender in future years. Close games in the semi finals
saw Tillman defeat reigning champion Daniel Cranston, and Walker defeat
Paul Eyes. Eyes would defeat Cranston in a low key 3rd / 4th place
game.
In the other categories, Michael Tillman won his first U19
title in his final eligible year, beating close rival Stuart Russell
2-0. Paul Eyes regained the Veterans championship in a very tight final
contest (1-0) with Alex Batacchi of Florida.
Team play on Sunday
saw Maryland again prevail in the Virginia Cup. Matt Steinmuller was a
rookie on the MSC first team, but responded with a superb 3 win and 1
tie record out of his 4 matches. Including a crucial 1-0 lead against
Gregg Deinhart (at the half) of WTSL in a pivotal game of the event.
Maryland finished first in a field of 5 teams.
In the final
(unofficial) Red Hat (event sponsors) Open tournament on Sunday, Rick
Wilcox displayed his enduring quality with a last gasp 1-0 victory over
Tillman.
Congratulations to WTSL for doing a fine job of hosting
the Nationals weekend.

It may have been the smallest ASA Open in southern California in four years
but it was described as a "Cracking tournament" by the organizer
Simon Hutchinson.
Wayne Smith won his 16th consecutive Open tournament, beating Simon in the
final. And
David
Jensen claimed third place winning a shoot out in "sudden death" against
Dominic Hutchinson.
The group stage saw several games that almost ended in upsets. Dominic
gave his father, Simon, a shock by taking a very early lead. Wayne had a tough
time breaking through David's defense. Simon scored an early goal on Wayne, and then hung onto
this slender lead until midway through the second half.
