The Western States Open returns to the Golden State afer a four year absence.
This year's tournament will be held in Simi Valley, CA, on Saturday August 23, 2008.
The Western States Open was first played as an American Subbuteo
Association Major tournament hosted by Southern California Subbuteo Club in 1999,
which was won by Wayne Smith. After a three year hiatus the Boise
Unemployed SL hosted the competition in Idaho in 2003. The following
year the tournament returned to Southern California, when Wayne Smith
became the first person to be a two time champion. The 2005 competition
returned to Idaho who have hosted it in 2006 and 2007 too.
The winner of the 2007 tournament was Lenny Foster of the BUSL.
The WSO was Major tournament from 1999-2006. After 2006 the ASA no longer recognized tournaments as Majors.
