How To Host An ASA Sanctioned Tournament PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Thursday, 24 May 2007

1. Can any Club host an  ASA tournament?

Yes.  You need to let your VP know, and check the current ASA calendar to make sure there are no other conflicting tournaments in your region for the desired date.  More than one ASA tournament may be held on the same date except not in the same region. No tournament may conflict with the National Championship weekend.  An announcement of the tournament should also be posted on the ASA discussion board under the appropriate region folder.  There is a minimum two-week window required to organize all ASA Opens.  All tournament date changes need to be sent to your VP and the BOD.  The sooner a club can get tournaments announced to the ASA and on the calendar the better for turnout.

2.  How many players are needed to host an official sanctioned ASA tournament?

A minimum of 2 players are required for any ASA Open to be officially sanctioned.

3.  How are points awarded?

Points are weighted by the number of participants, so the more players the more potential points.  The Points Championship Race is the top 5 Open (points) results for each player during the current season of play plus each player's result at the National Championship Open.  The rolling ranking is the top 5 Open (points) results plus any National Championship Open result over a 12 month moving window. i.e. July 06 to July 07.   The rolling ranking is the ranking to use for seeding players at ASA Open tournaments.

4. How many Opens may a club host in a season?

The ASA does not limit the number of tournaments each club may host, however only the top 5 Open results (plus National Open results) for each player are tabulated into the rankings.  A good rule of thumb for clubs is to host 4 sanctioned ASA tournaments a season.  This is to keep the interest and activity level high with a tournament every quarter.

5.  What are accepted match times?

Open=12 minute halves can be played at the discretion of the hosts.  The National Open requires 15 minute halves.  15 minute halves are FISTF regulation, and the most widely accepted time at ASA Opens.

6. What Pitch surfaces may be used?

Playing surfaces must be secured to a board such as laminate, chipboard, compressed, or MDF for tournaments.  Pitches=Astrobase Astroturf, Subbuteo Astroturf, Woodentop Prima and, or Liga pitches, worldtablesoccer.com pitches manufactured by David Baxter. Adhesive backed pitches need to be permanently applied.  Subbuteo Astroturf pitches with the rubber backing need to have the corners thumb tacked down.  Grass mat is also an acceptable playing surface.  (There are different requirements for the National weekend covered under the National Weekend Hosting Guidelines.)

7. What type of goals?

Metal goals that conform to FISTF regulations.  These may be purchased, or self manufactured.

8.  What are the accepted  fees?

Opens $2 per player.  A hosting club may set Open fees higher to pay for acceptable expenses notifying participants of such, like food/beverages.  The ASA is not responsible for trophies at Opens, incidental expenses incurred by hosting clubs, or any other expense involved with hosting an event.  All tournament fees should be collected by a tournament organizer and sent to ASA Treasurer Massimo Conturso.  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

9.  What are accepted formats?

There is a section on possible formats in the excel rankings point file.  This is available for download on the ASA Website.

10. Where do we send our tournament results?

Send your complete tournament results to the ASA Statistician Calum Keenan This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it so participants points can be tabulated and posted to the Official ASA rankings.

11.  ASA Banners

The ASA owns 2 4x8 ASA Logo banners that can be utilized by any tournament organizer.  Shipping cost for 1 banner is covered by the ASA and may be subtracted from tournament fee collection with a detailed receipt also being sent to Massimo Conturso.  Jeff Drake the ASA Promotions Director is in charge of ASA Banner distribution.  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
