With only two weeks to go before the Posh Spice Open many players were using this event as some valuable match practice.
Thirteen year old Adam Carlson made his competitive debut, and becomes the second U15 player in the Southern California Subbuteo Club. Dominic Hutchinson is the other.
Wayne Smith’s
dominance of this competition continued as he went undefeated and did
not concede a goal. Despite this he was made to work hard for his
victory over Simon Hutchinson.
The first goal came just before the end of the first half and his
second midway through the second half. Apart from those lapses Simon’s
resolute defending and goalkeeping kept Wayne at bay.
Dominic, who finished in fourth place, showed that practice does pay
off. In first game he was only beaten 0-3 by Wayne. He went on to
hold Kevin Nieman to a goalless draw, lost to his father, Simon, and beat Adam by 2-0, his largest margin of victory to date.
The game between Simon and Kevin, despite the lack of a goal, was full
of end to end action and excitement as both players tried to stamp
their authority on the game.
We were all pleased to see Gregory Kuntz again for the first time 15 months. While he did not play he watched the games and helped with the photography.
