If you have a set (or two) of Stefan Corda Raptor G2-A bases that are surplus to your requirements, please message me.

Thank you!

Quite honestly, in my 3 or 4 years hanging around these boards and in my many Subbuteo travels, I am the only person in the ASA that actually plays with them. And I only know of a few other guys here in St. Louis that even own a set.

Everybody is on the damn RexC kick. But I'm sure that's just a phase all the kids are going through. Roll Eyes

To partly answer your question, Andrew... I have seven sets of them and wouldn't dream of parting with any one of them. Sorry. Cool

Howdy Jeff, speaking of the G2-A, why doesn't Stefan Corda have them listed on their website anymore??  Are they working on some changes or a different base?  And if they are, what are they and when are they expected to launch them?

Thanks,
Mark

I noticed that yesterday as well, Mike.  I figured it was because S.C. UK was having supply issues with their materials, and having trouble getting the bases out to fill their orders.

If I had never discovered the Rex-C bases, I probably would have moved on to G2-A bases by now.  My game had gotten better when I started using the G2 and Glaciers and the G2-A was the next step in the progression.  Plus, after certain color combos of Astrobase, I think the G2-As are the best looking bases.

As it is, I never got a set of G2-As and focused my attention on the Rex-C (with Sureshots as my backup) bases which fit my playstyle better.

But... as Jeff said, he's the only one I know in the US that uses those.  But since you put it out there, you might be able to convince someone to let them go since they're not widely used much anymore (except by Jeff.)  There might be a few sets here and there that haven't seen the green of pitch in a while.

Hey Mark. Good to hear from you again. Sorry I haven't been on your boards in a while...

From what I recall from a conversation with Neil a while back, I think he said he can still make the G2-A to order. But I could be mistaken. I think they just ended up not becoming a very cost-feasible product for his company. Even WITH all my help. Cheesy

I'm not sure about a new base from him or not. I suppose I'm not THAT much of an insider. Wink

Too bad about the base, you had me convinced to at least buy one set and try them out.  As you said, the Rex C has taken off in North America, so I want to try something different.  I like having a base nobody else uses, I think it offers a slight advantage  Grin

sorry, I sold my G2-A sets already- one to jeff in fact.  Wink

I liked the G2-A, but I've gone the way of the Rex-C myself.  It will be interesting if Neil comes out with something new.  I've always liked Corda's stuff so I'm sure I'd give it a try.

Likewise - I'd like to support Stefan Corda, so a new base would be one way I could do that.

Some bases that nobody (or at least very few people) use that could fit your needs of uniqueness Mark - Extreme Works, Flickmaster Premiere, Toccer.

I saw Alex playing with the Extreme Works bases in Maryland and St Louis... and ... the dude has skills.  And the bases look cool, too.  Chris ordered a set recently and I was messing around with them - they're very nice - they don't need varnish, they pretty much chip themselves and have a nice touch.  I'd consider getting a set myself, but they ain't cheap.  After international shipping, they're darn near $100.

I'm probably wrong, but I think the only other person I've seen play that uses the Flickmasters is Darren in St Lou.  I have a set and recently started playing with them every once in a while.  It took me a good 4 games to get a scoring opportunity with them, but I did manage to score.  The touch just wasn't what I was used to so it took me a while to adjust.  I probably won't be using them again.  They're a maroon base with a yellow insert (keeper has a sky blue insert) if anybody is interested.

Toccers... well, they're just hockey pucks.  I don't think anybody seriously uses them.  Keif used them in the team tournament at the National last year, but I think he just wanted to challenge himself.

i have been around the block with bases. patrick and i a year ago or so were planning on doing a list of bases and our descriptions of shooting and things like that but knowing us it kind of dropped off   Cheesy

Lets see.... my list of bases....

Originally Hasbro Solid.
Moved to Sureshots from Patrick once I actually started playing a bit, but before I played with Paul and MSC
Moved to Profibases (C-3 flat bases) after about 6 months with MSC
Bought another set of Profi C-3. (holland - used at CT National)
Eventually got discouraged with medium distance shot of the C-3
Bought C-6 Profis (I think it was blackburn - used at St. Louis National)
Bought Astro C-5 at St. Louis used for U-19.
Bought Rex C (red n blue)
Bought Rex C (blue and yellow)
Used first set at Idaho but the second one at Holiday Silver.
Traded my second set with Patrick for a blue and white set of Rex C since blue and yellow will be his college colors.

And that pretty much sums it up. Along the way I have messed with Raptor G-2 and Flickmasters but never liked the touch that they gave (main reason i moved away from my Profi C-6 set was the touch) and now I have definitely settled in with the Rex Cs overall best base I have used.

Profis, Raptors, Sureshots all have equal or depending on who is shooting a better shot than the rex c's but I honestly dont know how people can play with the Raptors I find it impossible to touch up with them. Astros on the other hand have a equal if not better touch but I found the shooting to be more inconsistent.

My Rankings of what bases I would use would go in this order presently.

-Rex C
-Xtreme Work (flicked with Alex's guys and really liked them)
-Astros
-Sureshots
-Profis
-Raptors
-Hasbros

Rex C's? I must have missed a memo. What are these like? Where? $100? I'll stick with G2's and have 10 teams in my box.
Hopefully I get to flick soon.

How many pitches do you have down in B'ham? I might be willing to come down either Friday night or Saturday.

If I had two pitches I'd offer to host something.

Guys, back to the original topic for a minute... many thanks for your info about the G2-A's.  It seems I'm going to be hard pushed to find any spare sets around, but if you hear of any, please let me know.

Andrew, have you tried contacting Stefan Corda UK directly to ask if they'll make you a set?  If they still have the materials and the machines, they might be able to do a set for you.

Good review, Dan.  I would say that I have a better shot with the Rex-C than with any Raptor base I've played with (Ultima, G2, Glacier, G2-A)... but ultimately, it all depends on who is using them.  Jeff and Keith both have a great shot with the Raptor line, but I could never get that looping shot with them.  They'll do a real nice line drive for me, without much effort at all.

Eddie - the Rex-Cs are new bi bases. As far as I know, Subbuteo Berlin is the only place you can get them.  I guess they are the ones who are making them.  Steve Laskey is their rep here in the US - if you emailed him he'd be able to set you up, I'm sure.  They are shaped like Astro Base bi-bases, they play very similarly, but instead of the $85 cost of an astro, you can get the Rex-C from Steve for around $50.  They're made of two different materials - the bottom is a hard plastic that slides well (but needs a light coat of varnish just to protect it from getting scratched) and the top ring is a softer plastic which gives you a better touch.  It's all been said here in another thread before, though - so I won't go into the long story.  They're still not as cheap as sureshots or G2s, but to me, the improvement in play is well worth it.  And at similar performance to Astrabase for half the price, it's not surprising that they are the most popular base in the US right now (in terms of new base purchases.)  Color selection is fairly basic, but new colors have been available recently - hopefully more will be soon.

Eddie, my email address I have for you is the panicfc address... is that still good, or did you get a new one when you moved?
